Saraswathi Ranganathan

Saraswathi Ranganathan

Saraswathi brings with her a legacy of firsts. She is the first Indian woman and Veena artiste to win a Chicago Music Award in its 35-year history, the first artiste to introduce Veena to the Theater world, when she was chosen to perform in Disney’s Jungle Book production. She is the first Veena artiste to receive a $10,000 grant from the Logan Foundation in Chicago for her Surabhi Ensemble world music project. She attributes her path-carving success to the inclusive energy in her music and in her life. Saraswathi aims to create deeper connection across cultures thru her performances, presentations, and community engagement with the mission of #lessfearlesshatemorelove so we can #liveasonefamily.

For her work in world music and cross cultural exchange, for her work on Ragas and connections, Saraswathi won the Chicago Music Special Award of Honor 2021. She is one of the chosen Artistes as the face of Chicago Year of Music 2020-2021.

Saraswathi founded the world music ensemble Surabhi, touring globally since 2019 across Europe, Asia, Africa and Mexico. More info and music at saraswathiveena.com
