Hailed by Gramophone Magazine as “brilliant and intrepid,” violinist Airi Yoshioka has concertized throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, and Asia. Deeply committed to chamber music, Ms. Yoshioka has performed and recorded with members of the Emerson, Brentano, and Arditti String Quartets, and she is a founding member of Duo della Luna, the Voyager Ensemble, and the Damocles Trio. BBC Music Magazine, LeMonde de la Musique, and Diapason all awarded four stars (top rating) to the Damocles Trio’s debut disc of Joaquín Turina’s Piano Quartet and complete Piano Trios. Her orchestral credits include performances with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, the American Sinfonietta and engagements as concertmaster/soloist with the Manhattan Virtuosi and Aspen Music Festival Orchestra. An enthusiastic performer of new music, Ms. Yoshioka has premiered dozens of solo violin and chamber works and she has been a regular member of Continuum, ModernWorks!, RUCKUS, and Ensemble Pi. The past number of years, she has performed early music repertoire at the Staunton Music Festival. She is an active recording artist; labels of solo and chamber repertoire include New World, Naxos, Claves, Mode, Neuma, Albany and Pony Canyon records. She is a Professor of Violin at University of Maryland Baltimore County.
